What if we welcome all parts of our humanity without fear, shame or guilt? What if we allowed space for everyone to be seen and heard? Can we make decisions based on love and abundance? Is a New Culture of cooperation and inclusion possible? These are inquiries that 120 of us dove into for 10 days in the Oregon forest. We built our “Network for New Culture” (NFNC)* Camp from scratch, stretched our comfort zones, disassembled everything back to what it used to be, and left with invaluable experiences, memories and lessons. Yes, a New Culture is possible. It’s not all fun and games. It takes a LOT of self work, compassion and dismantling what we know as our default culture. Sometimes it feels like rearranging our DNA. Each of us arrived with traumas, (mis)conceptions and blind biases. We used tools: ZEGG Forum, Non Violent Communication (NVC), Presence, Movement, Love Pods, Compassion Cadres… etc to facilitate transparency, authenticity and community building. We left one big family with new visions, better understanding of other people experiences and expanded hearts and minds!
One afternoon I was tired. Walked over to the comfy couches under the trees, wrapped myself in a blanket and fell asleep. As I was waking up, I heard birds chirping, guitars playing and voices singing. Several people were lounging around in various positions of relaxation, loving interactions and self care. At first I thought I was dreaming. Then I realized that my eyes were open. It wasn’t a dream, it was a dream come true; my Eros tribe! Like minded people living in Nature, singing, laughing, loving and crying together. Embracing the full spectrum of our humanity and exploring life beyond shame.
Time flew by and Camp ended way too soon. Yet the dream continues because it’s now part of me and you. We have the power to rewrite our-story; the story of love, abundance and cooperation. How does that look in your life?
* “Network for New Culture” seeks to build a sustainable, violence-free culture through exploring intimacy, personal growth, transparency, radical honesty, equality, compassion, sexual freedom, and the power of community: https://www.nfnc.org/
